The company currently has a vacancy for a Product Engineer in its Aerospace and Specialty Optics Team, which is part of the Manufacturing Group. The focus of the Team is to develop new optical interference filter products by defining fabrication, measurement, and test processes. As such, the team members have responsibility for the development of new deposition processes, material systems, measurements techniques, special environmental tests, and fabrication techniques, the latter including patterning or micro-assembly challenges. A high level of inter-departmental collaboration is requiredin the initial implementation and troubleshooting, and to incorporate new technology into production. The Product Engineer negotiates access to production equipment as required for specific development activities.This position will require extensive hands-on familiarity with all of Iridian’s fabrication, measurement and tests equipment.

Job duties include:

  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the product specifications and requirements for assigned projects
  • Advise Application Engineering and Sales regarding process capability, process maturity and risk management during the negotiation phase of new projects
  • Take prime responsibility for the development and new product introduction (NPI) of aerospace and specialty opticsproducts, including, as required:
    • Development of new processesand test methodsand transfer to manufacture
    • Day to day project and sample management, tracking and reporting
    • Supply and supplier development
    • Risk management and failure analysis
  • Continuously improve processes and procedures for fabrication and testing, and implement monitoring systems where applicableand beneficial
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, tradeshows and conferences
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience successfully resolving challenging technical problems in the fabrication and testing of optical interference coatings.
  • M.Sc.or Ph.D.in science or engineering.
  • Good understanding of reactive-sputtering deposition and experience with measurement of thin film properties.
  • Experience with measuring physical attributes of optical filters (spectrophotometry, interferometry, roughness, etc.) as well as testing environmental durability is a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical ability and technical judgment.
  • Familiarity and working capability with NPI project management tools such as Gantt charts, FMEA, risk assessments and compliance matrices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks in a busy work environment, be customer-focused and detail oriented.
  • Flexibility in working hours to meet customer expectations and company deadlines.
